Impeach bid vs. Sereno declared sufficient in substance

The House Committee on Justice has declared the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Lorenzo Gadon against Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno to be sufficient in both form and substance.

30 members voted initially to approve the form of the complaint while 4 opposed.

A second voting was cast to determine if the case was sufficient in substance.

Again, 30 lawmakers voted in favor of Gadon’s complaint and 4 voted for its dismissal.

House Justice Committee Chairperson and Oriental Mindoro Representative Reynaldo Umali said they will now ask Sereno to provide them a written reply to the complaint of Gadon.

Wednesday’s hearing at the Batasang Pambansa goes on.

Lawmakers are now tackling the second impeachment complaint against the chief magistrate.

The second case was filed by the groups Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) and Vanguard.
