Ombudsman junks Aquino's plea on Mamasapano case

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has junked the appeal filed by Former President Noynoy Aquino on the Mamasapano case.

Aquino had previously sought to dismiss the charges of usurpation of authority and violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act against him.

The Ombudsman’s decision to charge Aquino was contained in a resolution issued last July 14.

Aquino submitted a motion for reconsideration last July 19.

In its dismissal of Aquino’s appeal, the Ombudsman today said the former president committed a wrongdoing when he allowed Former PNP Chief Alan Purisima to play a role in the Mamasapano operation, even if he knew that the PNP chief was already on preventive suspension in January 2015.

Aquino’s former spokesperson Abigail Valte says, the former chief executive’s legal team is meeting this afternoon to determine their next course of action.
